All of a sudden I thought of sociology when I was at the wedding. At the wedding their were many people invited; I would say close to 500 people. This wedding was a traditional Hindu wedding. At traditional wedding the groom is brought to the wedding in a procession. In the procession their is usually a horse or some other animal that is nicely groomed, strong, and decorated with nice garments to celebrate his wedding day. In this wedding the groom was brought to the wedding in 90,000 dollar Mercedes s550 that was brand new right of the lot decorated with flowers.

This is an example of culture clash because in rural India to celebrate a wedding the groom would usually be seated on a horse or elephant decorated with various garments. In America the bride and groom usually drive off in a car after the wedding. The culture mixes together when the groom is brought to the wedding in a very expensive car that is decorated with flowers.

  1. Wow! That sounds like a heckuva wedding! It's also a great example of a cultural universal in that the traditions that go along with Hindu weddings differ from those of Jewish or Christian weddings, for example, but the main idea behind the idea of a wedding remains intact.
